This season, called Absolute Doom, is focused on Marvel characters, showcasing the vast scale of their partnership. At the beginning of 2024, Disney made a $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games, announcing plans to build a Disney x Fortnite gaming and entertainment universe. Since both companies have collaborated many times before, this new experience will be hosted within Fortnite. Persson mentioned that players will have access to Disney through either the "Disney front door or the Fortnite front," likely implying that fans can join through Fortnite itself or a connected Disney platform. Given the wide range of franchises that have entered the Fortnite universe, Epic Games has implemented age restrictions on some in-game experiences, limiting the use of certain skins in specific modes. However, the upcoming Disney shop will operate differently—certain Disney skins won't be available in restricted game modes. As Persson explained, companies have the right to control how their intellectual property (IP) is used. For instance, it wouldn’t make sense for a Snow White skin to participate in Fortnite’s Battle Royale wielding dual SMGs. Though the community has received only limited information about the Fortnite x Disney collaboration so far, more details are expected in the coming months.
